Spring 2024 CTL Preview

We are organizing a Spring 2024 schedule of CTL events, programs, and collaborations with campus partners that invites all to engage in professional development across a range of issues and in a variety of venues.

Please join us and participate when you are able. We are developing additional events not yet listed, so stay tuned with The Catalyst regarding events and resources, and please contact us to suggest a topic or to learn more about participating in one of our programs.

  • Academic Freedom, Expression and Inclusion:
    • PEN America Workshops, Creating Campus For All.
      • Thursday, January 18, 9:00 am – 3 pm, Hynson Lounge (lunch included)
    • Free Speech and Hate Speech: Legal and Educational Perspectives
      • Bryan K. Fair (Southern Poverty Law Center and University of Alabama School of Law) organized by the Associate Provost of Diversity and Inclusion with other partners. Discussions with students, staff, and faculty. (Planning underway for a campus visit in March).
  • Supporting Student Learning and Wellness (virtual forum)
    • Wednesday, January 24, 4:30 pm (register for Zoom link)
    • presentations/Q&A with colleagues who supervise academic skills and resources, advising and student success, and counseling and wellness.
  • Looking Back and Looking Ahead: Reflections on Teaching
    • Discussion with New Faculty Mentoring Group, February.
  • Cromwell Fellowships: applications due by March 15
    • Lessons in Collaborative Teaching: Perspectives from Cromwell Fellows (TBD).
  • AI in Education: Ethical Perspectives
    • Responding to AI and new Honor Code Guidelines (Workshop with Honor Board and Director of Writing, TBD).

  • Engaged Teaching: Communication and Celebration
    • Share Your Work. We will be communicating the achievements of Washington College teaching, demonstrated in a variety of awards and fellowships, community conversations, curriculum development, and publications and performances.
    • We invite your participation as we aim to amplify these achievements on The Catalyst (blog posts, short video interviews, podcasts) and for wider distribution through Admissions and Marketing & Communications.
    • Celebration of Engaged Teaching (coming in May).
