The Cromwell Center for Teaching and Learning has planned for Spring 2025 a slate of continuing programs, discussions, and events that focus on building community, innovation, and inclusion in teaching and learning at Washington College.

- Annotated Syllabus Workshop (January 15)
- Gather for a welcome-back lunch and stay to discuss and work on updating and revising course syllabi guidelines with some best practice focus on attendance and participation; classroom discussion and free expression; academic integrity and the use of AI tools.
- Cromwell Fellowships
- Applications for 2025-2027 Cromwell Fellowships are due March 15.
- Cromwell Fellows Presentations (February 20): celebrate and learn what current Cromwell Fellows are developing in their projects as you consider a potential project of your own.
- Learning Communities
- Questioning AI: informal discussions and readings questioning potential uses, limitations, benefits, and problems with new machine learning technologies in education and elsewhere. Open to all faculty and staff, drop-in or sign up in advance. Contact: Professor Sean Meehan.
- Work in Progress: protected time for writing/scholarship meeting weekly on Wednesdays. Contacts: Professor Sean Meehan (Wednesday 9-10 am); Sara Clarke-De Reza (Wednesday lunch). Open to all faculty and staff, drop-in or sign up in advance.
- Peer Observation
- We will continue to support Open Classrooms (sign up to have colleagues visit your class) and Cromwell Teaching PODs, small groups of 3 or more colleagues participating in peer observation and development groups. Learn more about Teaching PODs here and contact us if interested in starting one.
- Campus Wellness
- We continue from the fall our focus on campus mental health and wellness and its impact on teaching and learning, inspired by our book club exploration of Sarah Cavanagh’s Mind Over Monsters. This spring we will collaborate with Associate Dean of Faculty Anne Marteel-Parrish on a series of continuing discussions focused on campus wellness, including ways of supporting student mental health in the classroom through “compassionate challenge.”
- Celebration of Washington College Teaching
- Share Your Work. We will be communicating the achievements of Washington College teaching, demonstrated in a variety of awards and fellowships, community conversations, curriculum development, and publications and performances.
- We invite your participation as we aim to amplify these achievements on The Catalyst (blog posts, short video interviews, podcasts) and for wider distribution through Admissions and Marketing & Communications.
- Celebration of Teaching (coming in May). We will once again co-host with the Dean of Faculty a celebration of Washington College teaching and learning. Look for details about how you can join the presentations.
