DESCRIPTION:Join us for lunch to listen and discuss Tobias Lemke’s ongoing research\, “Student Perceptions of Active-Learning Assignments in the Political Science Classroom.” \n[Lunch starts at noon\, the discussion will begin at 12:30. Please RSVP if you plan to join us.] \n\nActive and student-centered learning approaches have become buzzwords in the academy\, promising both improved learning outcomes and student satisfaction vis-à-vis traditional lecture models. However\, we know comparatively little about the “receiver” side of the equation; that is\, how are students perceiving active-learning strategies and assignments as part of their regular learning routines? \n\nThis ongoing research project builds on our understanding of student perceptions of active learning practices by analyzing student feedback (i.e.\, survey data and interview questions)\, collected over the course of three semester teaching an upper-level Political Science course at the University of Delaware. A preliminary analysis of both survey and interview data suggests that students generally perceive active learning to be beneficial but are mindful of the commitment and engagement it may require of them.
